Expedition Granted

New England Explorers has applied for a grant through National Geographic’s program ‘Expedition Granted.’ If our expedition is granted we’ll put together a team of the most skilled explorers in the northeast and hunt down some of the most elusive locations lost to history, reveal new natural wonders and explore the stranger side of our early history.

Many believe all of America has been explored and nothing new can be found. We’ve proven that wrong again and again. Over just the past few years, new caves with features never seen before have been found and a counterfeiters’ den lost for over 100 years was rediscovered. We hope to educate and entertain curious adventurers and armchair explorers. With regular reports of our work through blogs, videos, published articles and public speaking events to share the work we are doing, we’ll bring the public on adventures of discovery with us and share the most incredible historical and natural wonders in the northeast. We can educate, excite and inspire people’s inner explorers and show them the value of protecting our historical and natural resources.

When people ask why we explore, I think of something said by 19th century scientist Humphrey Davy, “Nothing is so fatal to the progress of the human mind as to suppose that our views of science are ultimate; that there are no mysteries in nature; that our triumphs are complete, and that there are no new worlds to conquer.” With new technology and access to resources, we need to go back and look at our world with fresh eyes once again and explore!

Please support us by using the links for FB, Twittter, G+ or email on the right of the video at our project page at http://expeditiongranted.nationalgeographic.com/project/new-england-explorers/ Help us spread the word and show everyone what hidden treasures lay in wilds of New England.

Update:

We didn’t make it to the finals, but we learned a lot about how to better pitch the project idea this time around. We like to think of this years entry as a dress rehearsal. Already we’re priming up for next year. We’ve got a long time to get it together this time so we’re expecting that next year might just be our year!
